Instructor Hiring Practices & Policy

Candidates must satisfy NMLS instructor eligibility before being assigned to any approved course.

• •Documented subject-matter expertise in mortgage lending — typically three (3) or more years of recent, relevant industry or teaching experience.
• •Instructors teaching a course must be NMLS-approved for that course’s topic areas prior to the course start date.
• •Candidates disclose any regulatory, licensing, or disciplinary history; the provider reviews this as part of eligibility.
• •References and prior teaching evaluations are reviewed before an offer is extended.

• •Recruitment is based solely on qualifications, subject expertise, and teaching ability — the provider hires without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or any other protected class.
• •Candidates complete an application, an interview, and a teaching demonstration.
• •The provider verifies credentials, experience, and NMLS instructor eligibility, and retains the documentation supporting each approval.
• •Approved instructors sign an agreement covering the Rules of Conduct, content ownership, confidentiality, and delivery standards.

• •New instructors are trained on the approved course materials, the functional specifications for delivery, attendance and engagement monitoring, and student data handling.
• •Instructors deliver only the approved course content and follow the approved timing and seat-time requirements.

• •Instructor performance is reviewed each course through end-of-course surveys, observation, and completion/pass-rate data.
• •Instructors maintain their NMLS eligibility on an ongoing basis; lapses result in removal from teaching assignments until restored.
• •Instructor qualification records, approvals, and evaluations are retained for a minimum of five (5) years.
