NMLS License Renewal Checklist for 2026

A complete checklist to ensure your NMLS license renewal goes smoothly — CE hours, background checks, fees, and more.

Your renewal checklist

The annual renewal window runs from November 1 to December 31. Work through this checklist to keep your license active without interruption.

  • Complete all required CE hours and confirm they are banked
  • Ensure your MU4 record is accurate and up to date
  • Clear any license items or deficiencies flagged by your regulator
  • Confirm your sponsorship (employer association) is current
  • Pay renewal fees for every state license you hold
  • Submit your renewal request before December 31

After you file

Track your renewal status in the NMLS. If a state places your license in a pending or deficient status, respond quickly so you are approved before the new year.
