Attendance & Seat-Time Policy
Last updated: July 1, 2026
NMLS-approved education requires that students attend and actively participate for the full scheduled duration of a course. This policy explains how attendance and seat time are monitored, recorded, and enforced for live online instructor-led delivery.
Seat-Time Requirement
One NMLS credit hour equals 50 minutes of instruction. Students must complete the full required duration.
- •A 20-hour pre-licensing course requires a minimum of 1,000 minutes of instructional seat time, delivered across scheduled sessions.
- •Students must be present and engaged for the entire scheduled time of each session; partial credit is not awarded for partial attendance.
- •The platform continuously logs each student’s join time, leave time, and total attended minutes per session.
Engagement Monitoring (Live Online)
Live-online delivery uses active monitoring to confirm the student is present and participating.
- •Randomly timed engagement checks (attention prompts) are issued during each session; a student must respond within the allotted window.
- •The instructor confirms attendance visually and through participation in discussion, polls, and Q&A.
- •Identity is verified at the start of each session and periodically re-verified during the session.
- •Idle time, missed engagement checks, and early departures are flagged and deducted from attended minutes.
Missed Sessions & Make-Up
- •A student who misses a session, or does not meet the engagement threshold, does not receive credit for that session.
- •Missed sessions may be made up by attending the same session in a later scheduled offering, subject to availability and the course access window.
- •A student must complete all required seat time and pass the course assessment before a completion is banked with the NMLS.
- •Credit is banked with the NMLS only after all attendance, seat-time, and assessment requirements are satisfied.
Attendance Records
- •Session-level attendance (date, topic, scheduled minutes, attended minutes, engagement results, and status) is recorded for every student and viewable in the student portal.
- •Attendance and seat-time records are retained for a minimum of five (5) years per our Data & Document Retention Policy.
